New graphics card
« on: January 24, 2010, 01:51:05 PM »
So Im planning on buying a g card because the one I have now sucks. I heard something about a new series coming soon, that's good because the previous series will get cheaper right? I don't need the best of the best and I don't want to spend too much on it.

Any advices?

Thanks

I'll sell you my Nvidia GeForce 9800GT 512mb.

$100 AUD for the 9800GT, the 9800GT goes for around $130.

Mate, I was just offering him a GFX card sale. I could easily put it on ebay and wait for it to sell but I was gonna ask him first.

When are you planning on buying it...? The new series you've heard about it NVIDIA's Fermi, and they say it's scheduled release is on February. The first cards released will most likely be above your interest on pricing, so you may have to wait a few months for something that fits your budget.

As for now, I'd go for ATi Radeon 5000 series. Maybe 5750 or 5770, depending on your other specifications. Post them and we'll help more on choosing. :)

Holy shit I actually have a better GFX card than somebody!?

Nvidia 7600gt ftw!  I might buy another and SLI them since they go for cheap on Ebay.

Also, I think only laptops use SDRam? :/

That's pretty old hardware all the way. I'd prefer going for some low-end, modern combination of some cheap parts instead of buying just a new GPU. Say a word if you have enough money for that, since your current CPU will most likely bottleneck your new graphics card's capacity.

As for just a new GPU, I'd prefer ATi Radeon HD 5670 (review). There's also some cheaper HD 5000's coming on February (5th?), won't be a bad choice either. But with your current configuration, don't even dream about the high-end ones.

Im not thinking of really great cards, just a better one that I have now. It's really shitty and it could be upgraded for not too much?

Id rather not have to spend too much money and do too much to my PC. It's not even necessary to upgrade but I just like a little extra boost because my current card is just shit.
