Heya, I m owning a nVidia 6800 and lately I have graphical glitches etc, first I blamed the newer firmwares, but lately the tempatures also gone up.
I guess this is the result for my poor programming on the gpu back in late '07
The tempatures could be used for boiling water allready...

GPU-Environment: 121Ã‚Â°C
GPU: 95Ã‚Â°C

and thats only been after playing for 10 minutes, then switching outgame and getting the tempature a few minutes later!
I found out that the environment tempature was caused by cables leading all the CPU heat to the graphiccard - removing the cable resulted in:

GPU-Environment: 50Ã‚Â°C
GPU: 92Ã‚Â°C

again, after playing 10 minutes, checking temp a few minutes later.
I yet have to check the tempature while beeing ingame (I m worried of a heart attack, you know?)

What could I do to get the tempature down?

Keep in mind that I would like to buy a new pc as soon OpenGL3 is out and I don't have much money to spend on this.

Increase fan speed

and your temperature is fine atm, mid 90's is when you start to worry.

I'm guessing with it being summer it's not helping. I would suggest that you check that there is plenty of thermal paste on between the core and the heatsink, and also make sure there is plenty of air circulation in your case. No good having hot air just being pushed around inside.

Check the inside of the case and especially the GPU heatsink for dust, because dust insulates heat pretty well. Tidy the cables inside your case to maximize airflow. Get additional fans if needed/possible, they're pretty cheap. Getting a new case with better air circulation could be a good investment as well, especially since you can still use that on your new pc.

I usually increase fan speed on the GPU and case fans before gaming, because nearly all my components are overclocked quite a bit. It increases the noise quite substantially, but I use headphones so I don't mind.
