UtterGarbage - The chargecord is a replacement for the battery pack and its only for charging. Buttonpresses etc keep beeing send wireless (Therefore it Would not work)
You need a real wired controller afaik (thats what I have atleast). An easier solution might be to get an Xbox 1 S pad (which is even better than the 360 pad imo) and just rewire it. There are unoffical drivers for it.

//Edit: A friend just agreed with this as he said he tested it, however, another review said it works to also plug it into a pc while charging which doesn't make any sense then... I guess you should try it out yourself or ask around

Isn't there just an official Microsoft peripheral for connecting a standard wireless 360 controller to the PC, I think I have heard of such a thing... that would be easiest?

I tried this ages ago. It doesn't work, at least with the type I got.. as Fox said, it only works with actual wired ones. It has some kind of thing in there that works with the software you need to install on the pc. And wireless one's dont have this.
