Tranferring data between PC and laptop

Ok, i'm not a complete noob at computer stuff, but when it comes to networking or anything like that i have no exp. I just want to simply transfer some data from my pc to my friends Laptop. Could someone guide me with easy to understand steps lol or msg me.

Do i need certain type of cable? I have an ethernet cable.

To do this you'd need a Crossover cable, it's like an Ethernet cable, but a bit different, it allows you to connect 2 computers together.

Either that or connect them both to a network, share folders and cut/copy/paste.

You could use 2 ethernet cables, plug them into your router/modem and from Control Panel/Own Computer you should be able to access to your friends laptop/your PC and copy/paste files.   Or as Aries said, use sort of Crossover -cable. Though i dont know whatkind it is..

Thanks for the info! unfortunately, i'm in a tight space in my shitty apt. and i have one input for an ethernet jack atm.
