Well, I haven't looked at any porn in ages, because I got a virus from a really good site , but this got me thinking:

Where does deleted history items go?

AND

Where does deleted search items go? (when you go to a search bar and click delete while hovering mouse over old search item) (not adress bar, search bar. ie: google)

I've tried checking google for answers, but came up short, so any1 got any ideas?

A common misconception is that the data is actually removed from the hard drive (erased) when you delete a file. Any time that a file is deleted on a hard drive, it is not erased. Instead, the tiny bit of information that points to the location of the file on the hard drive is erased. This pointer, along with other pointers for every folder and file on the hard drive, is saved in a section near the beginning of the hard drive and is used by the operating system to compile the directory tree structure. By erasing the pointer file, the actual file becomes invisible to the operating system. Eventually, the hard drive will write new data over the area where the old file is located.

neo: on ms its even worse. If you use IE you are fucked i think. It creates kinda cache file and remove the pointer to that file. But now, if you type the first letters IE will restore the pointer from the cache, and there is almost no way of deleting that cache cause its deep in the system registry. Its also used for Search fields, Quick search etc. So deleting it will eventually mess up your whole Windows installation

Atleast its like this on IE6 / WinXP (Any)

Yeah, that's how i fucked my PC up with umm...1700 viruses
