Help!!!!
« on: February 15, 2007, 11:10:41 AM »
Well, so uhm I got a big problem with my computer. I don't know what broke down, so that kind of sucks anyway. I was visiting a friend, to replace my cpu fan, so I took my computer in my car, and drove (pretty carefull if I say so myself) to his house. There we came to the conclusion, I'm stupid and forgot to order a part, so we couldn't fit the fan, we only too the side panel off, but didn't remove anything.

Now when I got home, the thing didn't work anymore. I know my computer a bit, and knew doing anythnig to it would give me trouble, but I still wanted to do it. Knowing this I made a back-up of my important stuff before I left from home.

At first when the computer started, it won't get bejoned the Intel P 4 logo.. I took my pc apart to see what was wrong, but then I placed the RAM wrong, so I had to place that again.. Then I could get to the screen which said, start save etc. So I wanted to save bood, but then I would just get a black screen with a dot flickering on the left upper part of the screen. And there is where I kind of get stuck, now I won't even get to the save boot menu enymore, but it just starts flickering one menu sooner.

I tried to load some stuff in my Bios settings, but nothing helped so far... Also I tried to reinstall windows XP home, which didn't work, cause I got a strange eror, which I can't find the reason for online. The error is this:
An unexpected error has appeared (1596462208) on line 1768 at d:\xpsp1\base\boot\setup\arcodisp.c.

I also tried to install XP pro, but that didn't work either. Could anyone help me?

Thanks, BoBsaget.

Put in your windows CD, boot from it, then go to the recovery console and type 'chkdsk' then when that has finished 'chkdsk /r'  (all without the apostrophes).  That might work, it usually does it for me.

It'll have instructions...when you're starting up the pc, press F2 and go across to boot settings, set the first boot drive to your cd and disable the rest, then press F10 to save/quit.

When its loading up, press enter when it tells you from to run the cd, then I think its R....it'll tell you when you need to.
