Title: EDM Thread
Post by: Blaze on February 11, 2012, 12:06:17 PM
Please refrain from posting Skrillex or I will murder you. Anyway,

Electronic Thread.

Post anything, aslong as it isn't tunes everybody's heard before (ie rock'n'roll, bass cannon, etc).

so anyway, to start it off heres a few tunes. the first one isn't yet released and was ripped from a youngman set which is why there is the MC over the track.

Kryptic Minds - Badman VIP (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ht7DmRsNizg#ws)

some straight up chill shit reminiscent of Fabriclive 37 by caspa/rusko.

Biome - Havana VIP (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BsFEF3zfTuo#)

and ENiGMA is also good.

ENiGMA Dubz - Run Tingz [HD] (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wogz9vy0VM8#ws)

oh and ill throw in some benga too. the video of him/skream dropping this at Ultra 2011 is amazing.

Benga - Smack Your Bitch Up (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ngfbXIL30g4#)

Why post in the thread then? It's like going into a pizza shop and saying you don't like pizza; you'll look like an idiot.

This tune seems appropriate.

I could do some sort of rant against you and how anime obsessions are for retarded neckbeards who cannot get a Waifu IRL, but I'm not a cunt. Don't like dubstep? get out of the thread then.

Borgore - Cry Me A River (Original Mix) - FULL HQ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5IQEKim9-jA#)

aha if they don't like it they can go cry a river and float down it until they find someone that gives a fuck ;)

Subscape - Screw up [Full Song] (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcbYryy8K0U#ws)

Brilliant tune, IIRC it was on Excision's Shambhala 2011 mix (download it if you haven't).

Knife Party - Internet Friends (Riotteck VIP) (1080p Dubstep) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhBec9PGUq0#ws)

@Veno Butch Clancy's tracks are good (: wish their was a VIP of russian lullaby though.

I fucking hate subgenres (ie drumstep, brostep, crunkstep. like literally, dafuck bro) so here's some of what's considered "drumstep". you could argue about it, or you could enjoy the tunes.

Audio - Genesis Device (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjCXxRLB-Y4#)

Pixel Fist - Horrible (Audio Remix) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQeIvhf4DfQ#ws)

After some time of listening to dubstep I realized the only dubstep artist I like is Benga, dubstep is too mainstream these days and it has become a competition in who's got a messier song and a harder bass. That's my opinion anyway.
Benga - Skank (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVRjlBxOOnA#)
Also your name's David too? Cool!
Title: Re: Dubstep Thread
Post by: Blaze on February 11, 2012, 02:05:49 PM
True that. Fabriclive 37 was hands down the best album ever produced, even with it being almost five years old.

Also, fuck yeah, David's are the shit

Post by: A maid on February 11, 2012, 02:23:37 PM
I'll be honest. There's only one, and only ONE dubstep song I don't think of as pollution of life.

Cyrex - I'm So Sick (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bFcAYos0vEA#)

But knowing the original song only eases the pain. :ninja:
Title: Re: Dubstep Thread
Post by: Blaze on February 11, 2012, 02:31:11 PM
lol Cyrex rips his bass from Skrillex. He did a "remix" of Love Story and I swear to god I recognized atleast four Skrillex songs in it. Pretty good remix there though.

Nice to see someone's still pushing the original dubstep sound around here. Gone balls deep in post-dubstep/future garage/whatever scene myself, cranking out some of my own productions. Landed a place at University of Brighton and University of London to study music :>

I'll drop this on you though - bought tickets for Bloc Weekend:

Haha yeah, best sounds out there. So glad the crowd was all about DMZ as well, the whole vibe was just as I expected.

That lineup is sick btw, would have loved to go there myself. Have you seen the lineup for Outlook Festival? Me and some mates are planning to go there, probably the sickest bass event I have ever seen.

and nice tunes you posted there, Battle for Middle You gives me so much good memories of last summer. :P

here's some of my favorite tunes from the DMZ party:
26 Basslines - Benga (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOjHFeckZik#ws)

Loefah- Disko Rekah (HQ) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fd2u2i_l7Bc#)

obviously:
Skream - Vacillate (Untitled/DMZ Sunday) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mujobImfncs#ws)

when Coki hit the decks, you know it's gonna go crazy:
Digital Mystikz - Horrid Henry (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHRFRTHqo3w#ws)

Joker killed it when he mixed this with some other tune and then mixed that with Tap Ho (not really DMZ vibes but I guess that's why he was last to play the decks :P):
Hudson Mohawke- Cbat (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_6j2A630_Q#)

the rest is all a vague blur of deep heavy meditational basslines :>

Absolutely. Friend of mine plays bass for Gentlemans Dub Club, so will certainly try and make the trip. Only problem is I'm not sure of my uni timetable for next year, so don't want to book tickets yet. Dimensions looks incredible too, and a bit more aimed at techno, which is good for me.

I don't mind people listening/producing that stuff. Genres evolve all the time, if they didn't we'd still all be listening to the same African tribal songs, over and over again. I just don't really enjoy it.

Now. Some more. The scene here is moving slightly towards juke/footwork. Or atleast hybrids involving footwork. Headhunter picked up on that when he made the switch to Addison Groove, and that sound is slowly gaining presence on the more underground dancefloors. The likes of Pearson Sound, Girl Unit, u-ziq, Joy O, Ramadanman, DJ Rashad, etc - all making marks right now.

Well Circus Records are pretty amazing (Flux, Dr. P, Roksonix, as you mentioned - Cookie Monsta {which is releasing EP on 2nd april}) but what I love the most of the Circus crew is... Funtcase. That last clip prooves it. Otherwise if I have to choose between labels (for dubstep) I'll go with Rottun.

Yeah, we have the Outlook festival here in Croatia too. It's a British festival as far as I know, and they found a great place on our coasts. My friend goes there every year since it was first organized, which was about 3 or 4 years ago. Age restriction is 18+ though, which is a good thing if you ask me.
Here's a video from Croatia:

Double post bumpage

Anyone kind enough to press the ♥ next to the player to help a friend of mine possibly get a set at Outlook festival? He's doing pretty well at the moment and he needs all the likes he can get. Just listen to the mix and if you think he deserves it I hope your kind enough to take the 5 seconds to create an account (if you dont have one, literally takes 5 seconds just did it myself) and help someone out. And if you think he doesn't deserve it you can still like it because what harm does it do? :P

Probably in the upper side, like USA and Canada, Latin-America it's pretty dumb, I mean by dumb I refer that not everyone knows about Dubstep, DnB, or related stuff. As far as I know near to my country (or even in my country) there wasn't any of these kind of festivals. But actually like 3 or 4 years ago there was an Electronic music festival, called Creamfields in Buenos Aires (Capital of Argentina) it was starring a lot of DJs that I can't recall now (I remember Deadmau5 was in it also) I went to that one and it was pretty nice actually, but since I started to check these festivals over youtube like 2 years ago I was like damn my country sucks

I didn't even know what EDM stood for, had to google it. "Electronic dance music (EDM) is electronic music produced primarily for the purposes of use within a nightclub setting, or in an environment that is centered upon dance-based entertainment."

Well I don't know why dubstep has been such a huge debate topic in here then. Is it common to play dubstep in nightclubs? lol

I hate clubs and the music they play, so that rules out most of EDM for me I guess. Elements commonly used within dubstep can be cool from time to time, but most often I feel like the artist is overdoing the wobwobs ><

Here's a cool tune I heard on WIMP the other day:
http://www.wimp.com/dubstepviolin/ (http://www.wimp.com/dubstepviolin/)

I have a friend who likes making dubstep tunes from time to time, I find his tunes better than most of the dubstep I hear on youtube f.ex:
http://soundcloud.com/umbra-2-1/umbra-pinocchio-says-grow-nose (http://soundcloud.com/umbra-2-1/umbra-pinocchio-says-grow-nose)

Amongst my favorite electronic albums are
Since I left you by The Avalanches
Alive:2007 and Discovery by Daft Punk
Random album title by deadmau5
We are monster by Isolee
Cross by Justice
Blumenkraft, Skylon and Mir by Ott
Are you shpongled? by Shpongle
Melody A.M by Röyksopp

If you're a fan of electronic music and haven't heard all of these, I'd say you're missing out.

Edit:
I'll add Air's Premiers Symptomes to that list. I really like most of the music these artists have created btw, those albums are just my favs.

All dubstep songs aren't wobwob and shit, depends on what are the words you are using to find it, there are dubstep subgeneres that are chill and not "wobish".
And about those albums, I got Daft punk's, Avalanche's, DM5', Isolee's, Justice's and Shpongle's. They are all awesome  Gonna take a look at the others you mentioned though.

@Red this was originally solely a dubstep thread but i changed it to general EDM a few pages back to avoid having a bunch of separate threads for dubstep, dnb, house, trance etc:)

As for the debate on dubstep, I feel most people hate on it without actually listening to it properly, instead they hear a 30 second skrillex clip and assume it's just RAHHRHAHAHWOBOWOBOWOBO  in every song produced, instead of digging a little deeper and listening to artists like Skream, Benga, Cluekid and soforth who pioneered the genre.

Not gonna lie I do enjoy stuff like a couple of Skrillex tracks, tunes that would be considered 'brostep' and soforth, idk I just listen to what I enjoy.

Recently been getting into house music a lot more, listening as well as mixing. I just love this stuff, here's some examples of what I mean.

Julio Bashmore - Au Seve (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnigNbYVQJE#ws)
Probably the biggest tune this summer and definitely the tune of Outlook Festival 2012 (any bass fan should go there once in his life)

Disclosure - What's In Your Head (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AvpBWu7PKE#ws)
Disclosure is probably one of my favorite artists right now in this scene

Some more tunes which I also use in my mixes:
Medlar - Terrell (Bicep's Brooklyn Shuffle) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oemeaM4lNy4#ws)

Paleman - Hunt (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwUcesrTu3I#ws)

Dusky - Flo Jam (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3AflMj_DJs#)
Gotta love the Swamp81 sounds, best boat party in my life.

Wait Genyus, you've been to Outlook? Outlook in Fort Punta Christo, Croatia?!?!? HAhaha my friends have been going there ever since it first started! They confirmed that it's the best event they've ever been to and since then they never really go out to weekend parties because non of them can compare to Outlook. Just 2 more years and I'll be able to go too (strict 18+ y/o policy). O btw did you check out the rap performances as well or strictly electro?

Yeah mate, the Outlook Festival. It was absolutely mental, though you can't really compare it to club nights IMO. It's just the best festival for me, because it pretty much had every artist playing there which I listen to atm. The policy is indeed very strict so you should definitely wait (a friend of mine who was 17 joined us and got denied at the entrance, she did manage to sneak her way on though somehow).

Didn't see any rap performances on the lineup this year.. Probably my fault for not recognizing those names but yeah, I've only seen electronic performances except for Fat Freddy's Drop and Gentleman's Dub Club. For the most part I went to performances with the style of music I posted above, but also a lot of dubstep and drum&bass. For example I went to the Swamp81 boat party as well as the Wheel & Deal one and to the GetDarker stage takeover as well as the Shogun Audio one. The mixture of reggea, dub, dubstep, drum & bass and house was just way too epic.

Akufen - Deck The House (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7nNF0FJ3-I#)

This one is genius. Akufen is a Canadian DJ who at some point locked himself in a farmstead somewhere in the north of Canada in winter and set up about 11 tracks just listening radio and combining some short voices and beats he recorded from it. (everything is explained in the top commentary on youtube). I just love listening this tune.
