Both are good, it depends on your own preferences  :)

Im using ATI atm and it works well, i had a few years ago a 8600GTS which worked also good.

If you can afford a lil bit more expensive VGA, nVidia. If you are an video editor, nVidia. If you don`t care about over-heating, ATI.

Still, ATI has great cards (such as 68xx. which ones, proudly, I could've put my hands on them before getting on stores). I'd recommend nVidia if you can actually afford them, since, IMO, they are better built. I had a 4850 and then 4870 and I must say that ATI archtecture is pretty poor compared to nVidia's ones. Also, due to that, they reach extremely high temperatures.

Personally, I'd go for nVidia.

I have a couple 4890s and they're blast furnaces compared to 275s.

I have a Nvidia GTX260 which I have to blow a fan at to keep temperatures down, but they're generally better cards with better drivers I think.
