Title: Browser Hijacked
Post by: Wanted on September 05, 2008, 08:39:30 AM
I accidently clicked on some ActiveX popup and it installed something, then when I search anything on google it redirects to random sites... I'm using a visual basic web browser, it doesnt get affected by that but my internet is starting to get incredibly slow. Anyone else had one of these? I've tried heaps of stuff to get rid of it but just cant..

try downloading this: http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe (http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe)

Then run it, making sure that the 'Run Fixit' box is checked. If your firewall picks up this program, don't block it. Oh, and restart your pc when it asks you to, it might take a little longer to boot up but thats fine.

Read my post, use google chrome, makes a whole lot harder to hijack, as for getting rid of it, what anti virus / anti spyware /anti malware do you have running?

I'll try google chrome, ive got ad aware only. recommend any other (free) programs. First thing I tried was System Restore, but it must have deleted all previous checkpoints because there were none.

EDIT: Google Chrome is awesome, thanks. Fast, unaffected by hijack.  Looks pretty cool too. *deletes other browsers*

As for getting rid of the stuff you got, try spybot: search and destroy and avg free.

Downloaded SpyBot S&D, looking promising with a ActiveX trojan detected so we'll see. Thanks  (also downloaded latest Ad-Aware, see what that does)

You more then likely have a virus and shitloads of spyware(prolly brought into your system through the virus), I've had this before, I didn't bother formatting my hard drive though cuz I had the money to buy a new and bigger one.

System restore will always fail, but spybot helped me out of a lot of shit so far.

OH and one more thing, Ad-Aware = mega faggotry, last time I used it it didn't do shit for my computer and I ended up formatting my hard drive.
