... if my idea of the following effect is possible (with Sony Vegas) and if yes, how?
A simple Text Media in the video layer. For example with my name: ColdDeath
I'm using only one text media, but I want to colorize every letter of the text, in this case of my name ColdDeath, in different times.
1. Second: C is green, oldDeath is black.
2. Second: C & ldDeath are black, o is green.
3. Second: Co & dDeath are black, l is green.
And so on. This wouldn't be a problem if I would use 9 different text medias, one for each letter of 'ColdDeath'. But since then I must use 9 different layers, too.
Does anybody see a possibility to do that? I don't so.

Highlight the letters you want to have a different color and then change the color in the color pallet. I think that might work.
-
Keyframes might do the trick.
-
I'd suggest using the cookie cutter on a block of solid colour, and just cutting out where the letter is. Put the colour on multiply too so it covers the letter.

But that involves more than one layer aswell Unfortunatley I don't think there is a way to do it on 1 layer, but by counting what you said you could do it with 4.

why you just don't do it with 9 textmedias and render it? so u can use it as one
-
uhm, finallight's answer?
-
There is no colour pallet. You can only change the colour of text by clicking on the properties tab, but you can't change individual letters of the text.
-
then layer by layer =D
vegas is really a pain in the ass with regards to making transitions & effects
-
I found a way to do it with just two layers, it can be done in like 2-3 minutes, I'm rendering an
example and I'll make a tutorial later tonight.
EDIT: Here it is but... well... it's not quite perfect YET, I still need to make some adjustments.
So, the preview:

EDIT2: I'll make the tutorial later tonight.

meh its not that hard with 2layes, just do 2times the same, then color the top one and delete the unneeded letters.
-
Nah, Snowman... I tried that too but it's impossible. This is another way
-
wana bet its pos? i'll post a veg when i get home, must go to school now
edit : meh, i go now then
-
Sure

.

Lol, two layers indeed but like 6-7 text medias!!!
Anyway here's another preview of my method which needs:
-three layers;
-one text media.
-preview download- (http://files.filefront.com/textwmv/;11059066;/fileinfo.html)
Tutorial coming later, as I said before...

wheres theftman : o
-
3layers? looks like only 2 are needed , but letz see
-
Well try it with masking
Use 2 tracks:
1st track:
Colorize the text green and mask the capital letters (Mode: Positive)
2nd track (under the first of course):
Copy the first track and colorize the text black; Reset the Mask
Done
EDIT: Misunderstood the question. Idk how to colorize every letter. Probably with a Grandient Map with no fade
-
Ok the tutorial is almost done.. be patient lol... you'll see it's quick, simple and easy when you watch it.
-
done with 2 text media and 1 solid color
veg and clip attached
-
Still I think mine is much easier to do...uploading the tutorial.
-
Just make the cookie cutter smaller
-
Lolz dancing ftw xd
btw cool effect
-
Do the text in Photoshop where you can give each letter a different color?
-
If i were u, i'm gonna make three tracks for this. The first track is for black color, the second one is for green color and the last one for the texts. This is original method, also easy.
-
or just create 2 layers
one layer has the text, another layer has a solid color
then of the solid color mask the part a letter would be,then move it to the part the letters are (keyframing)
and if you dont want to have 9 layers then your lazy
