It's like photoshop except it lacks many of the essential features that PS is embounded with. It's also a free program.

I suggest just getting PS CS2, unless there's a reason you can't get it.

I used to play with GIMP, but trust me photoshop is better.  Follow some tuts for your trouble.

Bending text in GIMP is easy all you have to do is go to www.adobe.com/photoshop.

Don't know much about GIMP, (I also suggest you use Photoshop), but I think the site fl posted will help you quite a lot.
