Title: "Cast Aside" Recording Finished
Post by: Eric on May 16, 2007, 05:24:31 PM
Well, here I am again, advertising my music again, this time I've slowed down the tempo. Me and my lead guitarist Adrian fully composed the song, the basslines were provided by Richard our resident Les Claypool (not really lol) and vocals were provided by yours truly. Please excuse the recording quality...we did this with Audacity and a webcam mic....so it aint the best, but hopefully during the summer we can get into a studio and re-record everything. Add us and leave us a comment or 2, we'd definetely apreciate it.

I did it on purpose to get that extra 'sad' vibrato out of it

Seems like your crappy DSL is beating you, i've open the site, and just waited 3 seconds and i've heard the song. Nice song. Good work Eric.

Hmm

Not a bad song... but uhh I don't know how to break this to you, and I'm only trying to save you some embarrassment, but you can't sing.  Other than that, decent song.

He's got a good voice, much better than most of the amateur crappy stuff on myspace anyways.  Awesome song Eric.

Sweet song, although Blah is half right. It sounds like your trying to sing too hard, or in a different voice, which never sounds good. Just sing like normal.

Well it was rushed, that's not my full potential dude. and it took a couple hours to compose but it took us a month to record it since we had school/work/girlfriends and everything else in between to worry about.

hey can you tell me what scale you used for the guitar solo? I'm in a band now and they want me to make solos.

Great song Eric, the solo is nice but the ending could have ended in some melody and not triads, but thats just my taste man

We used minor pentatonic and blues scales

Tablature Legend

A C D etc. are the notes.
1 4 1 etc. suggested fingering

A Pentatonic minor Pattern 1 (A C D E G)

 A  C  D  E  G  A  C  D  E  G  A  C
 1  4  1  3  1  3  1  3  1  4  1  4
-------------------------------5--8---------------
-------------------------5--8---------------------
-------------------5--7---------------------------
-------------5--7---------------------------------
-------5--7---------------------------------------
-5--8---------------------------------------------
(also starts at 17th fret)

A Pentatonic minor Pattern 2 (C D E G A)

 C  D   E  G   A  C   D  E  G  A   C  D
 2  4   1  4   1  4   1  3  2  4   2  4
-----------------------------------8--10----------
----------------------------8--10-----------------
----------------------7--9------------------------
---------------7--10------------------------------
--------7--10-------------------------------------
-8--10--------------------------------------------
(also starts at 20th fret)

A Pentatonic minor Pattern 3 (D E G A C)

 D   E   G   A   C   D   E  G   A   C   D   E
 1   3   1   3   1   3   1  4   1   4   1   3
----------------------------------------10--12----
--------------------------------10--13------------
-------------------------9--12--------------------
-----------------10--12---------------------------
---------10--12-----------------------------------
-10--12-------------------------------------------

A Pentatonic minor Pattern 4 (E G A C D)

 E   G   A   C   D   E   G   A   C   D   E   G
 1   4   1   4   1   3   1   3   2   4   1   4
-----------------------------------------12--15---
---------------------------------13--15-----------
-------------------------12--14-------------------
-----------------12--14---------------------------
---------12--15-----------------------------------
-12--15-------------------------------------------

A Pentatonic minor Pattern 5 (G A C D E)

 G   A   C   D   E   G   A   C   D   E   G   A
 2   4   1   4   1   4   1   4   2   4   2   4
-----------------------------------------15--17---
---------------------------------15--17-----------
-------------------------14--17-------------------
-----------------14--17---------------------------
---------15--17-----------------------------------
-15--17-------------------------------------------
(also starts at 3rd fret)

and we had tried for a few hours to nail a decent solo down but nothing was fitting, we had sweep picking, arpeggios and tapping planned, but nothing fit it, so we left it simple...there was gonna be a clean riff after that to end it...but we decided to leave it off there lol, once we get into a REAL studio, we'll go ahead and add all the parts that we want to it.

Mickey, thanks for the song add, add the band also if you dont have it as a friend.

thanks for the comments guys.

Im vocalist in my band, Ive been taking singing lessons for 9 years and Im hoping of making it into a career. I think I can give you a tip:

You sound like your holding back, like your "whispering", as if you didn't want anybody to hear what your mumbling. To get a good sound of singing, you have to really just let it all out, no stopping it.

I liked the song tho, great first song you guys made, hope that you can get it recorded properly, and remember to just let it all out. I myself have a problem with this stuff sometimes, Ive bashed many recordings because of my sluddering and mumbling into a mic. Your sound isn't half bad tho, so keep practicing.

Nice song!

I havent taken singing lessons in about 7 years, so you are definetely ahead of me lol, so I'll take it into consideration, besides...we did this with a webcam mic, so there was really no room to let it out because it would have come out really distorted...but once I buy a real recording mic, I'll definetely let it all out, thanks for the tip bro.
