Well, I'm pretty bored lately so I was thinking, "Hey maybe we could do a GFXT 3". So, I decided to post it here.
Anyway, I would like to know whether you guys are interested in a third Tournament, and if you have any questions or suggestions.
My idea is to just do it the way we did the previous one(check the pinned topics for details). That is, unless you have a better idea for an outline.
So, wanna do it?
-
yay
yes yes yes
-
yeah defo, i want to join
-
i'll join but i know i'll crash and burn miserably :D
let's get this started!
-
HEll YEAH!!
Im definetly in , i missed out by literllay days last time buti sucked at art back the anyways,,
BTW post it n off topic
-
shadow says he wants to be in it
-
Can I help run it <_< I'm afraid of losing to Firebug.....Lol and I dont have time..
-
I would like to be something else than e competitor too. Though it depends on the system. If you're willing to try something new I might compete.
What about trying my idea with a league system this time?
-
with firebug in this comp none of us have a chance of winning, well we do just not a very good one. can we try what tackleberry is saying or like do it in teams for the first couple of challenges... you know something different and it gives everyone a better chance of winning and most likely learning something about gfx editing and creating. :D just a suggestion

^__^ lol ^__^
It's good if we have some experienced artists as judges. I wanna be judge this time.
Oh and here is how I may rate if we are gonna use judges:
Originality (0 to 5)
Skill count (0 to 5)
Typography (0 to 5)
Background, lightning and effects (0 to 5)
Overall look (0 to 5)

why laugh im just as good as you or even better at art, you have seen like 0.001% of my work
i would like it to more art orientated this time instead of mainly just Sigs.
casue i sigs are so limiting

1. Exactly, when I was novice I rated myself as pro.
2. Yea, when I was beginner. Now It's my turn to make them.
3. I'm not egoist but don't forget who has more experience.
No arguments, I hate them. ;)
-
Count me in.
-
Firebug and InsaNe, keep your ego competition on MSN, I just want to know if you have any ideas or want to be in, no bashing please.
-
I guess i can join B)

Are we gonna use judges? If so, I want to be a judge. So we need 3 non-biased judges or more?

I would like to be a judge too.
EDIT:
This is why I wrote before the last tournament:
I have a suggestion for the next tournament, but it includes a lot of changes. Though I think it will be more fair then the actual one.
As many as want to join can do that, no upper limit. The judges can be like it is now, 5 or something. There will not be one vs. one matches, everyone will be competing against everyone in every challenge. For every round there will be a new and different challenge, which all have to do. This way the allround quality will be shown by the competitors.
Then I got two ideas how the judges can do.
Idea 1:
For every round every judge has to chose the worst of the entries. The one with most votes is out. Then we just keep doing so until one is left and the winner. Maybe we could make the challenges more challenging in the end of the tournament and the final could be a bigger challenge (like the one in GTA SL or something).
Idea 2:
For every round every judge has to pick the five best entries, and give, for example, 5 points to the best one, 4 to the second, 3 to the third, 2 to the fourth and 1 to the fifth. Then we have like 10 challenges and the two with most points goes to the big final.

I was hoping to get a community based voting system

It looks like we will have more judges than competitors...
Maybe all of you who haven't won it yet should participate as competitors. :P
-
Me and Tack are former winners....:D Woohoo we rock! I might compete actually........ ;) Yeh fuck it why not. Count me in as a competitor :D I'll put Firebug and Insane to shame :P
-
I'd join, just so I can psas the 1st round and get annihilated in the 2nd.
-
i'd join but just as Torque says...i'd get anihilated right after the first round.
-
I'll put Firebug and Insane to shame :P
I said I wanna be judge :P  :)
Ok, if Matt want's to compete then judge line-up is: Me, Fugi, TAC
I think 3 is enough.

Sounds good to me.
Is it ok if InsaNe, me and Fugitive like run this competition (organize the battles and stuff), or should we just be judges?

One or two to run this whole system and three judges sounds good imo.

IMO 3 is a bit of a small amount, 5 would be way more suitable. Purely because it'd take more to win, I mean, if one judge has voted than the other two must vote for the other to win, that's a bit of a.. well.. limited ability to comeback IMO. With 5 judges, it's like judge 1 votes, then the other person still has a greater chance of winning. In short, 5 judges adds to the excitement IMO.
As for running the tournament, I'd still be running it unless there is someone who is jumping up and down to run it - and honestly I think it'd be easier if me, Aries or Tac runned it since we got mod powers over this section already - meaning no waiting for Andy or MA to give someone control over the forum.
However, two persons to run this would of course be nice in one way but they could "cross-work" eachother. Like one person does this while the other person is doing the exact same thing with a different method. I.e., person 1 posts the match themes, while the other persons does them as well. Now you end up with two different challenges and a little fight over which challenge is valid and which is not. On the other hand, it'd be easier to get the stuff done when the other person is not able to post the next challenges quickly(ex. due to absence).
If people want me to run it, NP, I'm willing to but if someone else really wants to, be my guest. However I advice Tac to do it, considering his mod position here.
-
Maybe I could run it? I dont know whether I want to compete or not  Although If I wanna compete then X should definatly run it, seeing as he ran it last time and helped me the first time.
-
I want firefly as 4th judge. If he accepts, then we need only one.

You said something important there.
I think you still should be the one who leads it, but I also think you should have some assistance. I would like to help in any way I can. And as you say, I also got mod powers, which is an advantage. Aries too, so the three of us could probably make it work very well.
So if Aries decides to not compete, he can probably be a judge (can you?). And then maybe you could be a judge too Xtramus? If so, it would make it 5 judges in total.
Though I'm afraid for one thing. Will we get enough competitors to run this at all? I'm not so sure about that...
-
Just to even see if we are going to use judges, are there any persons who have an idea for the whole setup of this tournament? As in judges:yes or no, one on one matches or knockout rounds with everyone competing, or maybe poules. Stuff like that. I'm leaving on a four-day trip tomorrow so if there's anyone who has an idea for the tournament, I say we give them till Thursday eve and then we can decide what kind of setup we'll be using.
In short: Got ideas for the tournament lay-out? Post them right here right now.
-
Definately use judges, public voting leads to votes from biased/unexperienced people, which leads to arguments and whining. Get some non-biased, experienced judges. As for the outline, Tackleberry's 2nd idea sounds good to me. Everyone gets to compete, and the 2 with most points go to a big final match. Seems fair, as long as the challenges are different each time.
I won't be a judge in this, I wanna compete. We need competitors too. ;)

Here is my suggestion, a bit better explained:
GTAS Graphics Tournament III Lay-out Suggestion
Number of competitors: infinite
Number of judges: 3 or 5
There will be one “leagueâ€Â, in which all competitors will compete. Every Sunday a new challenge will be set, and the competitors will have from Monday to Friday to make an entry. At the weekends the judges will check the entries and rate them. Each judge give 5 points to the best entry, 4 points to the second best, and so on for the five best entries. The season will reach over, for example, five weeks (which means it will be five different challenges, but this has to be discussed.).
After the five weeks the three best will fight over the title in one big final (I set the amount to three, because this is the number of finalists in the previous tournaments.). The final will be like before, like three challenges during a specific period of time. In the final both judges and the community should be able to vote, and this is a suggestion of a voting system in the final:
The judges will rate the entries and give 3 points to best one, 2 to the second best and 1 point to the third best. The community can also affect though, but not as much as the judges. Every member will be able to give 1 point to one entry. The winner is of course the one with most points in the final, the points from the first five weeks will not have any effect in the final.
*This will lay-out be more fair than earlier, all competitors will be able to compete in all challenges, which will lead to that we will have the absolute best competitors in the final.

I love the idea.
And maybe its time to start listing the competitors up so we can all easy see if we will be enough.

Yeah, but we're waiting on Xtramus to get back (I think...).

Ccan i be a judge , i have a year 12 degree in Visual arts ( 97.6 UAI boo yah ) and art hisrtory and are about to commence art history subject at colloge and i dontwant to be toldthat i dont have enough experience since i am 4 years older than you guys and you have only seen 0.99% of my work ( i paint , my year 12 piece was a 3 ft by 4 ft canvas )
-
I'm awefully sorry but I don't think I'll be able to run this due to a lot of other stuff in real life(like school). However I think Aries would like to do it instead, or Tac would.
-
Aries gmv
-
Yeah, Aries can lead it.
-
If you are going to have multiple judges and competitors from differrent time zones a calling notice should be put out to warn poeple that the next round is going to be on a certain date
-
Btw, firebug if we have seen 0.99 % of your work, where is 99.01 % of your work? O_O
-

LOL you're translating from the italian literally, I think that doesn't make sense in English
